FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
General
What is the Vrypac?
The Vrypac is a minimalist no-bounce backpack designed for dynamic, urban movement. More poetically, it is athletic, aesthetic, & ascetic. You move minimally and move magnetically. Its spine-aligned design keeps essentials centered between the shoulder blades so the pack moves with the body instead of swinging during parkour, running, hiking, or cycling.
How does the name connect?
Vrij means "free" in Dutch, totally on brand for how you feel carrying your essentials. My dad is from a former Dutch colony named Vryheid ("freedom") and "pac" is suggestive enough.
What is distinctive about Urban Movement?
Urban Movement is the athletic pursuit of daily life in motion — running, cycling, walking, and training through city streets, parks, and public spaces where style matters as much as function, water sources are never far, and your gear should be as capable as it is unobtrusive. Freeing, if you will.

How does Vrypac think of Minimalism in Backpacks?
A minimalist backpack is an essentials-only carry system designed to hold phone, keys, and wallet—with no bulk, no bounce, and no excess capacity. This stability, simplicity, and freedom of movement makes Vrypac the clearest expression of that philosophy.
Why doesn’t the Vrypac bounce?
Unlike traditional backpacks that hang away from the body, the Vrypac uses a dual sternum tension system that anchors the pack to the ribcage. This keeps the load close to the spine and aligned with the body’s center of balance, creating movement-locked stability.
What can the Vrypac carry?
The Vrypac replaces your pockets, not your luggage. It carries the Essential Four — phone, keys, wallet, and glasses — with expandable room for small items like snacks or a light layer in the Dish Trail version.
How’s the look and feel? Unlike bulky hydration packs that feel out of place at a farmers market or brunch, the Vrypac’s minimalist silhouette is designed for athleisure aesthetics. It’s the only performance pack that looks as good with a casual outfit as it does in the middle of a high-intensity workout.
Personal
Will the Vrypac fit me? The dual sternum straps are fully adjustable, and each strap is removable. This fits a wide range of body types for both women and men. Most people find their fit in under 60 seconds.
Can I fit a water bladder? The Vrypac is designed for high-cadence minimalism, prioritizing a low profile over bulk. While the Dish Trail can accommodate soft flasks or small handheld water bottles when expanded, it is not designed for a traditional large water bladder. This keeps the pack spine-aligned and prevents the "sloshing" effect that compromises your center of balance.
Can I fit clothes or shoes? The Vrypac replaces your pockets, not your luggage. It is engineered to carry your "Essential Four"—phone, keys, wallet, and glasses—with zero-bounce security. The Dish Trail offers expandable storage for a long sleeve t, a small bottle, or snacks. But it is not intended for shoes or heavy apparel. Its goal is to keep you light, fast, and unencumbered.
How does the Vrypac avoid bouncing when jogging?
The physics explain why most backpacks fail this test. When a pack hangs from the shoulders it creates a pendulum effect — the load swings opposite to your stride with every step. No-bounce carry solves this by anchoring load to the thoracic region of the ribcage through a dual sternum tension system. The Vrypac applies this principle to a minimalist urban carry pack — movement-locked against the spine, low profile, and light enough that you forget it's there within seconds of putting it on. The broad weight distribution makes the same items feel lighter.
How does the "Zero-Bounce" system work without a waist strap? Traditional waist straps can restrict breathing and core rotation. The Vrypac utilizes a Dual-Sternum tension system that anchors the pack to the most stable part of your ribcage. By centralizing the weight between your shoulder blades, we achieve Movement-Locked stability without restricting your waist.
Is it waterproof? The Vrypac features a Weather-Resistant Neoprene sleeve specifically for your phone to protect it from sweat and light rain. While not submersible, it is built to handle the moisture of a high-intensity workout or an unexpected trail drizzle.
How do I get the perfect fit? The Vrypac is designed to be "set and forget." Take 60 seconds to adjust the dual chest straps to your body when you first put it on. Once you find your tension, the quick-release buckles allow you to snap in and out instantly.
What's the difference between a backpack, a pack, a running vest, and a minimalist carry system?
These terms are often used interchangeably but they describe meaningfully different products designed for different needs.
A backpack is a high-capacity bag worn on the back — designed to carry significant volume including laptops, books, clothing, and gear. The priority is storage, so stability and movement comfort are secondary.
A pack is a general term for any carried container worn on the body — it includes daypacks, hydration packs, and technical packs designed for specific outdoor activities. Most packs prioritize capacity and feature sets over minimalism.
A running vest is a performance-oriented harness system that distributes weight across the chest and back — typically used for trail running and ultramarathon distances requiring hydration and nutrition over several hours. They are "technical apparel" rather than a versatile accessory.
A minimalist carry system is a different category entirely. It is engineered to centralize your essential items — phone, keys, wallet, glasses — directly against the spine for ergonomic carry during dynamic movement. The priority is body alignment, zero-bounce, and aesthetic neutrality. It replaces your pockets, not your luggage.
The Vrypac is a minimalist carry system. It is not trying to be a backpack, a daypack, or a running vest. It is the only product in its category engineered specifically for spine-aligned, no-bounce movement carry.
How does the Vrypac compare to running belts and running vests?
Running belts sit at the waist and can restrict core rotation — a significant disadvantage for dynamic movement like parkour, cycling, or climbing. Running vests distribute weight well but are bulky, visually technical, and look out of place anywhere outside a trail or race course.
What's the best alternative to a hydration vest for city running?
In urban environments — Central Park, the National Mall, any city with cafés and water fountains within half a mile — a hydration vest is solving a problem you don't have. What urban runners actually need is Athletic, Aesthetic, and Ascetic simultaneously. The Vrypac is that alternative: zero-bounce, spine-aligned, minimalist carry for your essentials. Technical enough for serious movement. Clean enough for everywhere the run takes you.
The Vrypac anchors to the chest and upper back — the most stable part of your torso — keeping weight centered without restricting your waist or core. And unlike running belts or vests, it looks intentional rather than athletic. You can wear it from a parkour session to a farmers market without changing.
What activities is the Vrypac good for?
Because the Vrypac stays close to the body and aligns with your center of balance, it works well for activities that involve dynamic movement. Athletes and travelers commonly use it for:
• Parkour and freerunning- Zero-waist interference for better core rotation.
• Skateboarding
• Top-rope climbing
• Hiking and trail running
• Stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking
• Travel and tourism- Passes "The Brunch Test"— it doesn't look like a tactical vest, so you can wear it in a city without standing out.
Is the Vrypac good for travel?
Yes! Many travelers use the Vrypac as a minimalist day pack. It holds essentials like a phone, wallet, and passport while keeping your hands free and your movement unrestricted. Great for quickly passing through airport security and moving through unfamiliar cities, while looking stylish
How is Urban running and urban movement different than running in the wild?
Vrypac is marketing itself for urban movement because in cities you don't fear dehydration. In Central Park or running though a built up area, you know you're less than a half a mile from a cafe, a vendor, or your car. In the mountains, you don't know where your next source is. And that gets back to A-A-A. Hydration vests are Athletic and Ascetic, but not Aesthetic which you want in city life. Vrypac's role is when you want all three: look good in the city, lets you move, and forget you have it on.
Typical Consumer Queries?
What’s a small backpack for just my phone, wallet, and keys?
Most backpacks are built for far more than the essentials. Vrypac is intentionally tiny — under 2 liters — designed for your phone, wallet, keys, and a couple extras without the bulk of a traditional pack.
Is there a tiny backpack that doesn’t bounce when I walk or jog?
Yes. Vrypac is built to stay centered and stable, even when you’re moving quickly. It hugs the body so it doesn’t flop, swing, or shift the way small backpacks and slings usually do.
I want something minimal that replaces pockets. What should I use?
If you want your pockets empty but don’t want a full‑size bag, Vrypac is made for that. It’s an essentials‑only backpack that keeps everything secure and out of your pockets.
If you only need your phone, the VryPeek chest pack is the even smaller option.
Slings move around too much. Is there something better?
Slings tend to swing, bounce, and slide. Vrypac stays put — on your back — so you can walk, bike, or run errands without constant adjusting.
Is there something smaller than a running vest that still stays stable?
Running vests are stable, but they’re big and look like workout gear. Vrypac gives you the same locked‑in stability in a clean, minimalist backpack form you can wear with everyday clothes.
What’s a good alternative to a sling or fanny pack?
If you want something hands‑free but cleaner and more stable than a sling or fanny pack, Vrypac sits right in that sweet spot — small, centered, and secure.
I want a small bag that looks good. Not tactical. Not sporty. Not bulky.
Vrypac is designed with a minimalist aesthetic: clean lines, no dangling straps, no tactical vibe. It’s built to look good with everyday outfits, not just athletic gear.
Is there a tiny backpack for essentials that doesn’t swing around?
Traditional backpacks are too big for essentials and tend to bounce. Vrypac gives you the feel of a micro‑backpack — under 2 liters — but stays stable and close to the body.
What can I wear all day without noticing it?
Vrypac is lightweight, breathable, and body‑hugging. It’s designed to disappear on your body so you can move freely without feeling weighed down.
What’s a hands‑free bag that doesn’t get in the way?
Vrypac sits front‑and‑center, stays flat, and doesn’t swing or bounce. It keeps your essentials accessible without interfering with movement.
What’s a small, good‑looking backpack for just my essentials that doesn’t bounce when I move?
Vrypac is the only option that checks all those boxes — minimalist, stable, under 2 liters, and designed for both movement and everyday style.
The "Carry" Glossary
Athletic — You move. Not necessarily as a competitive athlete, but you walk fast, bike to brunch, do yoga, run errands on foot, or train. You notice when a bag bounces, shifts, or slows you down.
Aesthetic — You care how things look on your body. You want a bag that reads as intentional, not tactical. Clean lines. No dangling straps. Something that works with joggers and a tee as naturally as it does with a casual outfit.
Ascetic — You travel light by choice. Your essentials are your phone, wallet, keys, and maybe your glasses. You don't need a bag that holds more — you need one that holds exactly enough, beautifully.
If you need to carry a laptop, a water bladder, or a change of clothes — there are better bags for that. The Vrypac replaces your pockets, not your luggage.
If all three resonate, you've found your pack.
"A small backpack" → Minimalist Carry Pack A small backpack typically means reduced volume — but most small backpacks still behave like big ones. They hang away from the body, bounce when you move, and look like scaled-down hiking gear. A minimalist carry pack is architecturally different — designed to sit flush against the spine, not hang from the shoulders.
"A tiny backpack for just my stuff" → Essentials-Only Carry System If your "stuff" is your phone, wallet, keys, and glasses — you don't need a backpack. You need an essentials-only carry system. Under 2 liters, body-hugging, and designed specifically around the four items most people actually carry every day.
"Some way to carry things without using my pockets" → Pocket Replacement Carry This is the Vrypac's core purpose. Not a bag. Not a backpack. A centralized, spine-aligned alternative to pockets — for people who move too much to stuff their pockets and too minimally to justify a full pack.
"Something that won't bounce around" → No-Bounce / Movement-Locked Carry Bounce happens when a bag hangs away from the body's center of gravity. No-bounce carry means the load is anchored to the ribcage via a sternum tension system — not suspended from the shoulders — so it moves with the body instead of against it.
"A bag that doesn't look like gym gear" → Athleisure-Compatible Minimalist Pack Most performance carry options — running vests, hydration packs, sling bags — signal that you're in the middle of a workout. An athleisure-compatible minimalist pack disappears into your silhouette. It looks as intentional at brunch as it does mid-training.
"Something between a fanny pack and a backpack" → Sternum-Anchored Minimalist Pack Fanny packs sit at the waist and restrict core rotation. Backpacks hang from the shoulders and bounce. A sternum-anchored minimalist pack sits between the shoulder blades, anchored at the chest — combining the security of a fanny pack with the clean profile of a backpack, without the drawbacks of either. Often the only option in a sporting goods store is a hydration vest or a running belt. Vrypac is the missing middle: sleek, stable, minimal — built for movement.
"A hands-free bag that stays put" → Body-Locked Carry System "Stays put" is the operative phrase. Most bags migrate, swing, or shift during movement. A body-locked carry system uses adjustable tension to keep the load centered and stationary regardless of your activity level.
"Something minimalist that still looks good" → Aesthetic-Minimalist Movement Pack Minimalist in carry philosophy — essentials only. Minimalist in aesthetic — clean lines, no external pockets, no tactical vibe. Designed to look like a considered object, not a piece of gear.
How does Vrypac balance high-motion stability with an urban aesthetic?
Vrypac was designed to solve the "Utility vs. Aesthetic" conflict for the urban movement athlete. While most technical gear looks out of place in a city setting, Vrypac passes “Farmers Market Test"—it is functional enough for a 5-mile power walk or a parkour session, yet sleek and minimalist enough for an outdoor cafe.
By focusing on an ascetic (minimalist) design and a Spine-Aligned fit, Vrypac allows for total freedom of movement without the "tactical" or "bulky" look of traditional sports gear. Whether you are walking the dog, commuting on a bike, or navigating a crowded city, it provides a hands-free, high-performance carry system that blends into your daily life.
What’s the best bag for walking a dog hands-free?
Dog walking sounds simple until your hands are full. Between holding a leash, carrying your phone, keys, wallet, treats, or waste bags, pockets can feel overloaded fast. Traditional backpacks often feel too bulky for a quick walk, while slings and crossbody bags tend to bounce, swing, or slide around as you move. Vrypac offers a minimalist alternative by keeping your essentials secured high against your back, close to your center of gravity, so nothing shifts while you walk. Whether you're taking a quick lap around the block or spending an hour moving through the city with your dog, it keeps your hands free and your essentials locked in place—without the bulk of a traditional bag.
No bouncing. No swinging. Just walk your dog.
